Our Chairman to meet with Richard Benyon

An open letter from our chairman.

Dear Mr Benyon

I am writing to you as a member of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), Chairman of the West Berkshire Branch of CAMRA and living in your constituency to request a meeting with you as part of CAMRA’s Mass Lobby Day in parliament.

As a fellow member of CAMRA, I am sure you are aware that there are over 190,000 of us, each seeking to promote the sale of real ale and to protect pubs across the UK.

While successive governments have shown support for pubs over the years, it is still the case that as many as 18 pubs are forced to close their doors to their customers every week.

I would like to thank you for your support of the, so far, successful “save The White Heart campaign”, unfortunately in the past year we have also seen the closure and sale of The Narrow Boat and The Sun in the Wood.

The Rising Sun (Stockcross), The Plough (Thatcham), The Swan (Inkpen) and The Winterbourne Arms are closed with uncertain futures, all here in our Constituency.

That is why I am supporting CAMRA’s hosting of a mass lobby day, so that we can talk to you about what parliament can do to better protect pubs in our area and beyond. This will be CAMRA’s biggest campaign day in parliament since 2012 where we successfully lobbied MPs to scrap the beer duty escalator, so I do hope you will take the time to meet.

I know that your diary will be booked up months in advance. I would therefore like to book a meeting with you in parliament between 11:30 – 16:00 on Tuesday 30 October.

Please do let me know which time and location would suit you. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Regards

Andy Pinkard
