The theme of this year’s festival organised by Newbury & Thatcham Hockey Club is Go West, starting in our home county of Berkshire, moving through Hampshire, Gloucestershire and all the way down to Cornwall. Renegade, Butts, Longdog, Uley, Palmers, Cornish Crown – to name a few of the 20 breweries on offer. In addition, there are almost 100 different ciders on from 20 different producers –from the seriously earthy to the tropicana fruity!
Edd Henstridge, Had of Sourcing, along with some able advisers, hand picks every drink on offer at the ale festival after spending months of research and, most importantly, receiving feedback from customers on their likes and preferences on the day every year said “It’s a pleasure to showcase such amazing produce. I truly believe that an ale festival can offer that “Willy Wonka” experience – where people can and should be amazed, wowed and perplexed with every mouthful tasted!”
In 2022, on the huge main stage, there’s a kaleidoscope of acoustic, indie, pop, funk, ska and operatic rock, with KillerQueen headlining the ale festival as a warm-up to their world tour, which finishes off at Wembley Arena in November. Furthermore, The Newbury Real Ale Festival has teamed up with The Newbury pub to host some of their famous Open Mic nights during August. With a slot on the main stage available from the Ale Festival’s own open mic, it now means that three local artists will get the opportunity to perform to an audience of up to 5000 people.
The Newbury Real Ale Festival is delighted to announce that its main beer partner for 2022 is the newly branded Renegade Brewery.
Renegade Brewery, based at Yattendon (formerly West Berkshire Brewery), will be using the Newbury Real Ale Festival to receive valuable feedback on their new range of beers, if they are ready, as well as being a platform to promote its new brand within the local community.
Edd Henstridge, #NRAF22’s beer baron, said “We’re overjoyed at forming a partnership with Renegade Brewery and thank them for their support. West Berkshire needs a powerhouse Brewery name and a presence. Their tasting stall will engage with current and potential customers, Renegade genuinely wants to evolve as a brewery, be involved with the community and brew ales and beers that are most relevant to the tastes people in the local area. They have a fantastic, modern set up, a great tap room, passionate brewers and team at Renegade that share the same values as us.”
“As NRAF is the largest single day ale festival in England, balancing the number of beers and ciders on offer is always a challenge. Everyone wants to have a large range of ales, beers and ciders available the day and into the evening. At the same time though, it’s critical that wastage is minimised – the whole site will be back to being a cricket field by midday the next day! So, the more people that buy their tickets in advance the easier it is for us to judge our orders. We have some incredible suppliers and partnering with Tutts Clump for Cider and our latest partnership with Renegade, we’ll do our best to ensure that all the bars will remain open for the duration of the event. We’re looking forward to the best year yet – It’s always familiar, it’s always a little bit different!”
