About the pub
An Arkell’s pub on the outskirts of Hungerford next to the Common. Lauren Weir took over the pub from David and Janet Yates in July 2017. The parrot and the collections of model aeroplanes and cuckoo clocks have now departed and the interior has been redecorated in neutral colours. Some areas of the pub have new carpet and these are the only parts where dogs are not allowed. In September 2017, the lunch menu included soup of the day, fish finger sandwich and halloumi wrap. The main menu included fish & chips, lasagne and ‘Downgate burger’. Note that the menus change frequently.
In a Facebook post on 4 July 2022 Lauren thanked Arkell’s and invited customers to visit for goodbye drinks 5-8 July 2022.
In a Facebook post on 25 July 2022 Geordie advised that the Downgate (bar only) would reopen under temporary management until Arkell’s finds a new governor.
