West Berkshire Branch of CAMRA

Good Beer Guide 2013 Launch.

On Monday the 17th of September 2012 the West Berkshire branch of CAMRA proudly launched the Good Beer Guide for 2013. This is a very special edition of the guide as it's the 40th edition of the country's best guide for real ale pubs across the whole of the United Kingdom.

Terry Noble (3rd right) from the branch's Club of the Year, the Hungerford Club raises a glass with West Berks Chairman Adrian Bean and West Berks Secretary Mike Avery.

The event was held in the Red House in Marsh Benham, which was one of the new entries into the guide and proprietor Laurent Lebeau hosted us admirably in the stylish surroundings of his pub, as well as laying on some extremely tasty bar snacks.

The event also saw the unveiling of West Berkshire CAMRA's new pop-up banner which the branch are hoping to put to good use at events across the county and further afield. Ullage Editor Tim Thomas, the brains behind the banner, praised the hard work that other committee members had put into the production of it, especially Richard Lock who created the design. The branch members were also sporting new pin badges which are also hoped to make the branch more identifiable.

Tim explained "When we are hosting or appearing at events the banner and badges will make us more obvious so that other members can easily find us. We hope that anyone interested in learning more about West Berkshire CAMRA will approach us as we are keen to get members involved with the branch in any way that interests them."

The launch event was very well supported by local publicans, cider makers, brewery representatives and CAMRA members. Good Beer Guide licensees Mark Genders from the Lord Lyon, Stockcross, Glynis Snow and Chris Harman of the 6 Bells, Beenham, Gill Hern of the Crown & Garter, Inkpen and Lee Marsh from the Lock Stock and Barrel, Newbury all attended. They were also joined by Ken Nisbett and Terry Noble from the Hungerford Club, currently the branch's Club of the Year.

Local Cider Makers Rick Wyatt and Roy Bailey were also present alongside Barry Hunt of Arkell's Brewery in Swindon and well known Beer Writer Jeff Evans.

There are a total of 11 pubs from the West Berkshire Area included in the guide and the branch warmly congratulates all those pubs who made it in the 2013 edition of the guide. More details about the guide and how to purchase it can be found here.
